Do It Yourself Super Sports Drinks

One of the most misleading industries is the Sports Drink Industry. The purpose of a sports drink is to replenish the electrolytes that can be lost during either intense or endurance training. However, as much as we may like to believe, the majority of us never engage in activity that is strenuous enough to deplete electrolytes to the point that would require the replenishing of base electrolytes. Then, we negate any of the positive effects of exercise by consuming more calories in the sports drink than calories burned during exercise.

Sports Drinks
In the majority of sports drinks we found the major components are high fructose corn syrup, water, salt, potassium citrate, sucralose, sodium citrate, malic acid, potassium phosphate, phenylalanine, and minute amounts of B vitamins. Other than the B vitamins, your body does not require the other ingredients. When these other ingredients are consumed in excess they lead to weight gain and several lifestyle diseases. And in my medical opinion, these drinks are nothing more than “Junk Liquid”.

In general, consuming sports drinks after exercise lasting less than 60 minutes will only be counterproductive because you will most likely drink more calories than what you utilized during the exercise session. Your body is highly efficient at conserving electrolytes. Your best option and least expensive is to drink plenty of water before, during, and after any exercise session.

If you are seeking a healthier option, then try one of my Super Sports Drinks made with real fruit and herbs that will naturally replace your body’s fluids, improve your overall health, and keep money in your pocket.

We show you how in this video and continue below with some recipes:

muddler
Herbs like mint and fruits like strawberries, blueberries and raspberries you will want to muddle first. To muddle means to press the ingredients against the side of the glass with a muddler so as to release all the nutrients and flavor into the water. Then enjoy all the health benefits of your own Super Sports Drink!

Simply add several slices of any of the following fruits or vegetables to any amount of water and enjoy!

Lemon, Ginger & Mint Sports Drink

Lemons are great for detoxifying the liver and are loaded with potassium. They also help promote healthy skin.
Ginger will help sooth stomach discomfort and nausea and aids in muscle recovery and soreness. Ginger assists in the assimilation of vital nutrients, clears sinuses, and thins secretions. Ginger is a potent anti-inflammatory agent.
Mint is an herb that comes in several different varieties and helps eliminate toxins from the body, cleanses the stomach, and aids in digestion. Mint has a sweet flavor with a cooling after-sensation.

Orange Sports Drink

Oranges are rich in potassium – the electrolyte that helps to maintain body fluid status and regulate blood pressure. Oranges are loaded with vitamin C & A which boosts the immune system and they are great at promoting healthy skin and reducing the signs of aging.

Cherry Sports Drink

Cherries are a good source of minerals such as potassium, iron, zinc, copper and manganese. Potassium is a heart-healthy mineral; an important component of cell and body fluids that regulate heart rate and blood pressure. Scientific studies have shown that anthocyanins in the cherries are found to act like anti-inflammatory agents by blocking the actions of cycloxygenase-1 and 2 enzymes. Thus consumption of cherries has potential health effects against chronic painful episodes such as gout, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and can help to relieve sports related injuries.

Lime Sports Drink

A super sports drink of water with lime juice in it is an excellent way to decrease unhealthy weight as well as a brilliant oral refresher and anti oxidant drink. The citric acid present in lime is an excellent fat burner and is loaded with Vitamin C. Lime juice is a fabulous digestive aid and also helps with arthritis, fatigue, urinary disorders, improves eyesight, and can relieve constipation.

Pineapple Sports Drink

Pineapple is a rich source of vitamin C, sodium, potassium, and manganese, which helps your body recovery and produce energy. Pineapple also contains bromelain, which is a fantastic and powerful anti-inflammatory agent that can help you recovery from joint and muscle soreness.

Strawberry Sports Drink

One of my favorite low sugar fruits, strawberries are a rich source of Vitamin A, C, and E and contain minerals such as potassium, manganese, iron, and iodine. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids that helps control heart rate and blood pressure. Strawberries are packed with vitamins, fiber, and particularly high levels of antioxidants known as polyphenols, strawberries are a sodium-free, fat-free, cholesterol-free, low-calorie food.

Cucumber Sports Drink

Cucumbers are loaded with vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes. Cucumbers are comprised of about 95% water and have antibacterial qualities. Cucumbers help promote overall heath, strengthen connective tissue and joints, and can relieve digestive disorders such as gastritis and constipation.

You’ve likely heard of our neurotransmitters like serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine. Did you know they are hormones, and what their effect is on our mental health? When they are not at proper levels, we may feel anxious, depressed, unfocused and tired. Hormones deficiencies outside these well known brain chemicals can affect their levels, both through normal aging and our lifestyle.

In a recent podcast with Jay Campbell and Jim Brown, we addressed the very common situation of hormones and mental health. We all share our personal stories, shedding light on how bad things can get before we find a solution.

In times like these, I cannot help but think of our Veterans. The effects of combat have brought many thousands of cases of PTSD, many a result of a TBI, or Traumatic Brain Injury.

Fortunately, there is a way to get your life back. Call our office at 937-350-5527 to learn more.

Grow with Google is an initiative to create economic opportunities for Veterans to help them access the best of Google’s training and tools to grow their skills, careers, and businesses.

“For military service personnel, transitioning to civilian life can be very difficult. Many people begin their job searches on Google, so we started with Search to help those who have served and their families.”

These opportunities are available to everyone, with areas focusing on several groups including teachers, students and Veterans. To learn more, visit https://grow.google/programs/veterans-commitment/

Veterans with Traumatic Brain Injuries and PTSD

Many thousands of Veterans returning from combat service received a Traumatic Brain Injury during their deployment, often overlooked or dismissed because the head injury symptoms were mild or brief. Even though this type of TBI is called “mild”, the effect on the family and the injured person can be devastating.

PTSD and accompanying symptoms of depression are often the result of a Traumatic Brain Injury. Fortunately, there is a way to get your life back through a specific treatment protocol designed to heal the brain. More information can be found on our page for Traumatic Brain Injuries.

What to do when the little blue pill doesn’t work

It’s 2018, and the word impotence has been replaced by Erectile Dysfunction.

And, men are more open to talking about it. The increase in popularity of PDE5 inhibitors like Viagra and Cialis have made them a household name.

Trouble is, not every man responds well to ED medications. Many men report little to no effect on their erectile quality. So why does this happen?

Simply put, if the blood doesn’t flow, the sex is a no go!

Increase blood flow for better erections

Proper blood flow is at the core of pretty much all functions in our body. Free flowing, nicely dilated blood vessels are what we men need to achieve and maintain an erection.

During an erection, blood flows quickly into the penis, which increases its length, width, and firmness. If the incoming blood vessels (arteries) are too narrow or if blood drains too quickly through the outgoing blood vessels (veins), men may have trouble achieving or maintaining an erection. This is where a PDE5 inhibitor like Viagra may help.

How do PDE-5 inhibitors like Viagra work?

A common misconception is ED medications cause a man to be sexually aroused. While they do not cause arousal, they do work when sexual arousal is achieved. This is because sexual stimulation sends a signal to the brain to trigger a release of nitric oxide (NO) in the tissues of the penis.

The nitric oxide stimulates an enzyme that produces something known as a messenger cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), relaxing the smooth muscle cells. Viagra selectively blocks PDE-5, allowing the erection enhancing cGMP to remain longer and not be broken down. This increased cGMP allows extra blood flow to the penis. The result: Firmer, longer lasting erections.

vasodilation blood flow

Common questions about PDE5 inhibitors

What’s better, Cialis or Viagra?

Both Cialis (tadalafil) and Viagra (sildenafil) are phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitors used for treating erectile dysfunction, or ED. While both increase penile hardness (the ability to obtain an erection) Cialis provides over a longer period than Viagra because it lasts up to 18 hours, where Viagra only lasts for about 4 to 6. Cialis is also often taken daily and helps overall cardiovascular health through the added benefit of increased nitric oxide (NO) in the tissues.

Does Viagra or Cialis make you last longer?

When it comes to stamina, the answer is no. When it comes to maintaining an erection, Viagra can last up to five hours or longer depending on your dosage, your body’s metabolism, and other external factors.

What to do if Viagra or Cialis is not right for you

Taking an ED medication is a short term fix to a chronic problem, and may not work for you. The goal with any ED treatment is to increase blood flow, and that can be accomplished with some excellent treatments which restore your body’s natural blood flow to the penile tissues. We have found two of the best treatments, and through these methods have helped several hundred men to date. They are the GAINSWave™ Procedure and the P-Shot®

The GAINSWave™ Procedure uses pulsating acoustic shockwaves to stimulate the growth of new blood vessels in the penis. This increases the blood flow to the penis and improves sexual function. In addition, the GAINSWave Procedure stimulates the growth of new nerve tissue in the penis. This process, called neurogenesis, enhances sensitivity in the penis. Because this procedure is non-invasive it is referred to as the “extracorporeal shockwave therapy” or ESWT. The GAINSWave Procedure uses a GAINSWave™ approved low intensity shockwave device that has been FDA approved as safe for sale and use in US.

The P-Shot® is a specific way of using blood-derived growth factors to rejuvenate the penis. It is a breakthrough, clinically-proven, safe and effective procedure that can help you increase penis size, sexual performance and overall sexual wellness, without the use of any drugs or surgery. The P-Shot procedure starts with drawing a small amount of blood, then we isolate platelets from that blood giving us the platelet rich plasma, or PRP. The platelets are then “activated” to release at least eight growth factors that would normally be used to heal injured tissue. Then, using a tiny syringe, we inject these growth factors into the penis where they work like magic to cause increased collagen and new blood flow.

Why are Exosomes are the next evolution in Stem Cell technology?

Exosomes excel over other therapies to heal joint injuries, arthritis, correct erectile dysfunction and more!

Exosomes have an endosomal origin and are released by many different cell types, participating in different physiological and/or pathological processes.

Depending on their origin, they can alter the fate of recipient cells according to the information transferred.

Call our office at 937-350-5527 to learn more about this amazing new method to heal joint injuries, arthritis, correct erectile dysfunction and more!

Exosomes have to be kept at sub-zero temperatures prior to use. Here is Dr. Rob unboxing some Exosomes and discussing how they work.

More on Exosomes

THE MESSENGERS

Extracellular vesicles (EV’s) consist of exosomes and microvesicles, which are released directly from the cell membrane. EV’s can mediate cell–cell communication and are involved in many processes, including immune signaling, angiogenesis, stress response, senescence, proliferation, and cell differentiation. EV’s are involved in restoring tissue and organ damage, and may partially explain the paracrine effects observed in stem cell-based therapeutic approaches. The function and content of EV’s may also harbor information that can be used in tissue engineering, in which paracrine signaling is employed to modulate cell recruitment, differentiation, and proliferation.(1)

GROWTH FACTORS & CYTOKINES

Growth factors are proteins that may act locally or systemically to affect the growth of cells in several ways. Various cell activities, including division, are influenced by growth factors. Cytokines are a family of low-molecular-weight proteins that are produced by numerous cell types and are responsible for regulating the immune response, inflammation, tissue remodeling and cellular differentiation. Target cells of growth factors and cytokines are mesenchymal, epithelial and endothelial cells. These molecules frequently have overlapping activities and can act in an autocrine or paracrine fashion. A complex network of growth factors and cytokines guides cellular differentiation and regeneration in all organs and tissues.(2)

PARACRINE SIGNALING

Paracrine signaling is a form of cell-to-cell communication in which a cell produces a signal to induce changes in nearby cells, altering the behavior of those cells.

Signaling molecules known as paracrine factors diffuse over a relatively short distance (local action), as opposed to endocrine factors (hormones which travel considerably longer distances via the circulatory system), juxtacrine interactions, and autocrine signaling.(3)

A-OK Fats To Benefit Your Health

$

Patients often ask me which fats are ok for their diet. I like to keep it simple and I have 3 fats that I really like. My body responds well to them, and they are easy to remember. A-OK, avocados, olive oil, and nuts. I know the “k” in nuts is silent. My 3 favorite nuts are almonds, walnuts, and pistachios. All of these fats are referred to as MUFAs or monounsaturated fats. These fats are found in a variety of plants, oils and nuts and are known to improve blood cholesterol and blood sugar levels, which improves circulation and can decrease your risk for heart disease and even cancers.

Avocados are good fatsAvocados-are one I consider to be a super food that are versatile to use and taste great. Avocados contain a MUFA known as oleic acid which is known to lower cholesterol, improve circulation, decrease heart attacks, decrease blood pressure, protect from strokes and are helpful in cancer protection. Avocados are full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. My favorite way to have avocados is with scrambled eggs in the morning, but they are easy to add to any dish that you like and a great way to get your healthy fat for the day.

Olive Oil-This smooth flavorful monounsaturated oil contains a wide variety of antioxidants that are beneficial to your overall health. There is a large body of clinical evidence that the regular consumption of olive oil, 2 tablespoons a day, offers significant heart health benefits, decreased cholesterol, anti-clotting, anti-inflammatory and anti-hypertensive benefits. Something the Sicilians must already know! On my last trip to Sicily I saw a table of 90 year old plus men drinking olive oil and eating tangerines with black pepper. They must know something. I like to add olive oil to my protein drinks and use it as salad dressing. 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil, half a fresh squeezed lemon, a clove of crushed garlic, and italian spices and then whisk with a fork and Viola! Pour on top off some freshly stemmed vegetables, add to mashed cauliflower or use it on a salad.

Almonds and Walnuts are good fats“K” Nuts-Almonds, walnuts, and pistachios are at the top of my list of ways to get healthy fat. It is sufficiently and heavily documented that a diet which includes these crunchy little powerhouses makes it easier to lose weight and keep it off. Nuts are loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. They are best consumed in their raw and natural state and remember, no more than a handful at a time.

There is another healthful fat referred to as PUFAs or polyunsaturated fats and these are also found in a variety of oils and plants. There is one in particular, called omega-3-fatty acids, an essential fatty acid, that is especially beneficial to your heart and is found in fatty fish like salmon, sardines, and walnuts. If you do not like eating these particular foods then supplementing with an omega-3-fatty acid is very beneficial. Omega-3-fatty acids are also cardioprotective by decreasing cholesterol, decreasing inflammation in blood vessels therefore decreasing plaque buildup, decrease blood clotting and decreasing overall body inflammation. Another important benefit to having a diet with plenty of omega-3-fatty acids is that it has been numerously documented that a diet rich in omega-3-fatty acids creates an environment idea for weight loss and maintenance.
